Stainless Steel Filtration Components
Stainless steel perforated, mesh-lined and custom replacement filter baskets for bag filter vessels, strainers and industrial filtration systems.
Monarch Asia Pacific supplies filter baskets for liquid filtration, equipment protection and replacement requirements. Baskets can be manufactured from perforated sheet, woven wire mesh, Hollander weave or combinations of support material and fine filtration mesh to suit the application.
Filter baskets are used inside bag filter vessels, basket strainers and other filtration housings to support filtration media and capture solids from compatible process fluids. Depending on the required filtration duty, the basket may be manufactured from perforated sheet, woven wire mesh, fine mesh lining or a combination of materials.
Perforated baskets are commonly used for coarse filtration, screen support and equipment protection. Mesh-lined baskets provide finer particle retention while retaining the strength of a perforated support structure. Hollander weave media can be selected for fine filtration applications where a tighter nominal or absolute rating is required.
Monarch can assist with replacement baskets for existing vessels, custom fabricated baskets, open area review, material selection, mesh specification and practical workshop support from our Brendale facility.
The basket construction should be selected to suit the filtration rating, open area, strength requirement and chemical compatibility of the application.
| Basket / Media Type | Typical Use | Selection Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Perforated Stainless Steel | Coarse filtration, equipment protection and basket support structures. | Available in multiple hole sizes, pitches, thicknesses and open areas depending on required strength and flow. |
| Woven Wire Mesh | Finer reusable filtration where defined aperture sizes are required. | Can be fitted over a perforated support basket to improve particle retention while maintaining strength. |
| Hollander Weave | Fine filtration applications requiring tighter nominal or absolute ratings. | Used where fine filtration is required and the flow / pressure drop implications have been considered. |
| Mesh-Lined Perforated Basket | Combined strength and finer filtration performance. | The perforated sheet provides support while the mesh layer controls filtration rating. |
| Custom Fabricated Basket | Replacement, non-standard or application-specific filtration housings. | Dimensions, handle style, collars, end caps and sealing details can be reviewed to suit the existing vessel. |
Perforated stainless steel is commonly used for filter baskets because it provides a strong, cleanable and open structure. It can be used as a coarse filtration surface or as a support layer for a finer mesh lining.
Hole size, pitch, material thickness and open area all affect flow capacity, strength and retention performance. Larger holes generally provide greater open area and lower resistance, while smaller holes provide finer coarse filtration but may increase pressure drop or cleaning frequency.
Common stainless steel grades include 304 and 316, selected according to the process liquid, corrosion environment and mechanical requirements.
Woven wire mesh can be used where the filtration requirement is finer than the available perforated sheet opening. Mesh may be formed as the filtration surface or fitted to a perforated basket as a lining.
Mesh selection considers aperture size, wire diameter, open area, stainless steel grade and the strength of the supporting structure. Fine mesh linings can improve particle retention but must be selected carefully so the vessel can still achieve the required flow rate without excessive pressure drop.
Hollander weave media is a tightly woven stainless steel mesh used for fine filtration duties. It can be selected where a nominal or absolute rating is required and where a standard square mesh is not suitable for the filtration target.
Because fine weave media can significantly affect pressure drop and cleaning requirements, it should be selected with consideration of fluid viscosity, solids loading, flow rate and available filter area.
Correct basket selection depends on the purpose of the basket. A bag filter support basket needs to hold the filter bag correctly and provide adequate support during operation. A strainer basket must retain solids while providing enough open area for the required flow.
Undersized openings or insufficient open area can create excessive pressure drop and frequent cleaning. Oversized openings may not provide the required protection or filtration result. The best basket design balances flow, strength, retention rating and cleanability.
Replacement filter baskets may be required when an existing basket is damaged, corroded, distorted, blocked, missing or no longer suitable for the required duty. When replacing a basket, it is important to confirm the vessel design and the basket dimensions rather than relying only on a general description.
Photos, sketches, drawings or the original vessel model can help identify the correct diameter, length, handle arrangement, sealing surface, perforation pattern and mesh specification.
Filter baskets are used across many industrial filtration applications where reusable, cleanable and mechanically robust filtration components are required.
